Easter
Participating in Easter activities were a lot more fun this year, now that Cannon is older and mobile. We had a lot of fun getting dressed up for church (not so much for Cannon), leading a trail of Easter eggs up to Cannon's basket for him to find, having a small Easter egg hunt in our backyard, spending time with my family who were visiting, and eating WAY too much candy. We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter with friends and family and remembered our Savior on this special day.

Puerto Rico Vacation
Last week Blaine and I took a trip to Puerto Rico! The best part was that most of it was paid for by Blaine's company since he met his work goals last year. Good job honey! The second best part of the trip was that Blaine's mom was able to fly down from Washington and watch Cannon for the week so we could spend some time alone before our second baby arrives this summer.
Blaine's company flew every employee (and one guest) who met his or her goals last year to Puerto Rico for four days. We stayed at an amazing resort, the St. Regis, which was just barely built in January of this year in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. At the resort, we enjoyed some time on the secluded beach (the water was perfectly warm), swimming in the pool, golfing (Blaine), getting a prenatal massage (Erin), riding bikes, kayaking, watching a very cool thunderstorm one night on the beach, going to the nightly dinner parties with Blaine's employees, and admiring the beautiful plants, trees, and animals (mostly Iguanas, HUGE Iguanas) on the resort.
The last three days of our Puerto Rico trip were spent in Old San Juan. Here, we stayed at El Convento, a recently restored building that used to be a Carmelite convent 350 years ago. Today it is one of the oldest historical hotels of America. While this hotel was not nearly as beautiful and spacious as the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort we stayed at earlier, it definitely had a historical elegant charm to it which made it very warm and inviting.
While staying at El Convento, Blaine and I explored the old city of San Juan. The city sets itself apart from other older, historical cities throughout the world by the giant stone wall that surrounds and protects the city. The wall reminded me of the Great Wall of China, but not nearly as large and long. This wall protected the city for centuries against attacks from other countries and, especially, pirates! Amazingly, some of the original wall still stands today, although much has been restored over the years. The coolest part of the wall were the forts included in the wall. The two forts that still stand today are the San Felipe del Morro fort and the San Cristobal fort, which were both completed over a span of 200 years. These two forts managed to help protect the city from invaders for 400 years, until the United States came in and took control of the city and Puerto Rico in the 1890's.
Well, there is your history lesson for the day. :) Pretty neat, huh? Overall, Blaine and I had a great time and were able to relax and enjoy some time away from work. However, like almost all vacations I have been on, I was ready to come home by the end of the week. Being away from Cannon was hard on both of us and we were definitely anxious to see our little guy when we got home! Here are some pictures of our trip...

Elmo Addict
I must admit, there are days when I wish we had never introduced Sesame Street to Cannon. I felt the same way about the "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" movie last Christmas. Thank goodness the Rudolph phase ended in January. I am super thankful that I do not have to sit and watch the Rudolph movie with Cannon twice a day like I did for three months straight! However, now it is the furry red monster we have to worry about...ELMO!
In the beginning of February, I started turning on Sesame Street when it was on t.v. in the attempt to distract Cannon from wanting to watch his favorite show, Rudolph. At first he wasn't super thrilled of the idea and was easily distracted with toys and other things. However, once he discovered "Elmo's World", which is the last segment of the one hour show, he was hooked. And, ever since, he has been watching Sesame Street just about every day. I am just grateful that I do not have to sit and watch the same show over and over again because every day on Sesame Street is different and educational! What is even better is that Cannon can watch the show ALL by himself! No longer does he need a constant companion while watching t.v. Well, let me rephrase that...no longer does he need Blaine or I sitting next to him while watching t.v. as long as he has his "tickle me Elmo" by his side.
Elmo is not only Cannon's hero, but mine as well! Even though Cannon's great interest in Elmo can be a little over the top and annoying at times, when 11:00am rolls around and Cannon watches Sesame Street quietly by himself, I get a little break to do what I want! It is so nice to be able to have an hour to get things done around the house and then take a shower and get ready for the day when Cannon takes his 2hr nap after his show is over and he eats lunch. Thank you Elmo! :)It is also fun hearing Cannon sing to the song played during the beginning of "Elmo's World", where Elmo sings about loving his gold fish and crayons and then says, "that's Elmo's World"! These last three words are what Cannon always shouts out when watching Sesame Street...it is really cute to hear him sing/shout this phrase. Hearing Cannon sing those three words is also helpful in knowing when my hour of free time is just about up and it is time to fix lunch. Oh Elmo, what would we do without you?
Anyway, the purpose of this post was to reveal our little Elmo addict over here. Below are a couple of pictures of Cannon and Elmo. If you look closely in the third picture, you will notice that Cannon has Elmo socks on...I scored the socks and a bunch of Elmo books and coloring books in the $1 aisle of Target. I love that store!

Moving on up
Today was Cannon's 18th month doctor visit. I must admit, I was a little nervous about going to see the pediatrician because of what she told us at Cannon's 15th month appointment. Three months ago Cannon's doctor told us that if his height did not improve by 18 months, they would run some x-rays on him to find out the reason for his growth restriction. I hate the ridiculous growth curve charts doctors base a child's development on. How accurate are those things anyway? I mean, if you look at Blaine and I, you will quickly notice that we are not tall people. Therefore, we will probably not have 6 foot tall children. Anyway, as it turned out, Cannon is now moving on up the growth curve instead of continuing down the curve and off of the charts completely. Good news for us! Cannon is now in the 10th percentile for height at 30.5 inches and in the 15th percentile for weight at 23.5 lbs. We hope he continues to slowly move up the curve instead of down from here on out.
